If I Met Someone Historical

Okay, so I always have wanted Laura and Mary from the Little House books to come to my house in the modern times.

I used to imagine them trying to figure out the television and computer, and how a chin rest on a violin works. Then I would try to get them to put on pants, instead of those long dresses. But they would think it very improper to wear pants.

They would be utterly befuddled at how all the houses in my neighborhood were so close together. Then I would take them to the library and playground. We would attract many funny looks because of how they acted and what they wore.

At some point in this daydream I would realize that they would have been way shorter than me.

I would try to give them food, but they would not recognize it as food and they would be very suspicious.

Then they would go to modern school and be scandalized at the (to them) disorganization and noise. I would try to get them to play outside but they would insist on doing loads of chores first. They would be quite appalled that I was wearing shorts.

Eventually they would get used to modern life and it would be boring to think about them again.

If you could meet a historical person, who would it be?

xoxo

  1. I used to think of them and wonder what they would do if, instead of their BIG TREAT molasses, they were introduced to Snickers.

    But I digress…

I would want to meet Winston Churchill or Dorothy Parker. Both were super intelligent, well spoken and well informed. They were also very controversial and had scathing senses of humor. Quotes such as the following make me think I would enjoy their company as we were asked to leave most dignified homes.

    CHURCHILL:
“History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.”
“If you are going to go through hell, keep going.”
“A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.”
Bessie Braddock: “Sir, you are drunk.” – Churchill: “Madam, you are ugly. In the morning, I shall be sober.”

    PARKER:
“This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.”
“I don’t care what anybody says about me as long as it isn’t true.”
“Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly goes clean to the bone”
“This wasn’t just plain terrible, this was fancy terrible. This was terrible with raisins in it.”

Use their words wisely and at your own peril
